Franche-Comté - Historic Region of France
Franche-Comté is a former region of France. Situated between between the French region of Burgundy and Switzerland in the Vosges and Jura Mountain ranges, the region’s capital was Besançon – included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. The region included the departments of Doubs, Jura, Haut-Saône and Territoire de Belfort. With the re-ordering of the administrative regions at the end of 2015, from 2016 Franche-Comté was combined with Burgundy to form the region now known as Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
